About
Anabel “Ani” Perez-Brennan (she/her) is a percussionist based in Chicago, Illinois. She is currently earning her Bachelors of Music degree in Music Therapy at the University of Iowa and studies under Dr. Dan Moore and Dr. Nick Miller.
During her time at the University of Iowa, Ani has been a featured soloist in the Hawkeye Marching Band, recorded an album with Victor Provost and the Iowa Steel Band (expected release 2025), and played several festivals as an independent drummer.
Ani has had the opportunity to learn and play with incredible musicians such as Victor Provost, Todd Stoll, So Percussion, and Jeff Hamilton. She has been recognized on jazz drumset as one of the “top performing high school musicians in the United States” by the National Association for Music Education (NAFME) in 2019, and has participated in several all-state and all-regional camps, festivals, and competitions. Most recently, Ani has represented the University of Iowa at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in 2023 and 2024, placing top five among the best percussionists in the country.
Ani is passionate about inspiring young girls who want to pursue music. She is an advocate for gender equity and mental health in the music community. Ani hopes to use her skills as a Music Therapist and performer to make a difference in people’s lives.
